# Traffic and Geographic Data

Smart Cycle Discounts Pro can track additional data about where your discount-driven sales come from, including geographic distribution and traffic sources. This feature requires Smart Cycle Discounts Pro.

---

## Geographic Data

### What's Tracked

Geographic data is captured from WooCommerce order billing/shipping information:

| Data Point | Source |
| --- | --- |
| Country | Billing country from order |
| State/Region | Billing state/province |
| City | Billing city |

### Geographic Report

View discount sales by location:

- **Country breakdown:** Revenue and conversions per country
- **Top regions:** Best-performing states/provinces
- **Map visualization:** Heat map showing discount sales concentration

---

## Viewing Geographic Data

### In Analytics Dashboard

1. Go to **SC Discounts → Analytics**
2. Scroll to **"Geographic Performance"** section
3. View default country breakdown

### Geographic Table

| Column | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Country | Country name and flag |
| Orders | Number of discount orders |
| Revenue | Total revenue from that country |
| % of Total | Percentage of overall discount revenue |

### Drill Down

Click a country to see state/region breakdown within that country.

---

## Traffic Source Tracking

### What's Tracked

If UTM parameters or referrer data is available:

| Data Point | Example |
| --- | --- |
| Source | google, facebook, email |
| Medium | cpc, organic, newsletter |
| Campaign | black_friday_2025 |
| Referrer | referring website URL |

### Traffic Report

See which marketing channels drive discount sales:

- **Source breakdown:** Google, Facebook, Direct, etc.
- **Medium performance:** Paid vs. organic vs. email
- **Campaign attribution:** Link marketing campaigns to discount conversions

---

## Integration with UTM Parameters

### How It Works

1. Customer clicks link with UTM parameters
2. UTM data stored in session/cookie
3. When order placed, UTM data associated with order
4. Analytics report shows traffic source for discount orders

### Example UTM Link

```
https://yourstore.com/shop?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=holiday_sale
```

### Analytics Report Shows

```
Source: Facebook
Medium: CPC (paid)
Campaign: holiday_sale
Orders from this source: 45
Revenue: $3,200
% of total: 18%
```

---

## Top Sources Report

### Metrics by Source

| Source | Orders | Revenue | Conv. Rate |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Google Organic | 120 | $8,500 | 3.2% |
| Email Newsletter | 85 | $6,200 | 8.5% |
| Facebook Ads | 45 | $3,200 | 2.1% |
| Direct | 200 | $12,000 | 4.0% |

---

## Using Geographic Insights

### Target Marketing

Identify top-performing regions to focus marketing spend:

- Run region-specific campaigns
- Adjust ad targeting based on performance
- Time campaigns for regional events

### International Expansion

Track discount performance by country:

- Identify emerging markets
- Validate expansion decisions
- Adjust pricing/discounts by region

### Localized Promotions

Plan region-specific sales:

- US: Thanksgiving/Black Friday focus
- UK: Boxing Day sales
- Australia: Different seasonal timing

---

## Using Traffic Source Insights

### Marketing ROI

Calculate return on marketing investment:

```
Facebook Ads:
- Ad Spend: $500
- Discount Revenue: $3,200
- ROI: ($3,200 - $500) / $500 = 540%
```

### Channel Optimization

Compare channel effectiveness:

- Which channels convert best?
- Where should you increase spend?
- Which campaigns need improvement?

### Email vs. Paid

Compare owned vs. paid channels:

- Email often has higher conversion rates
- Paid brings new customers
- Balance based on goals

---

## Data Privacy

### What We Collect

- Country/region from billing address
- UTM parameters from URLs
- Referrer URLs

### What We Don't Collect

- IP addresses
- Precise geolocation
- Personal identifying information beyond order data

### GDPR Compliance

Geographic data is aggregate and anonymized in reports. Individual order data follows WooCommerce's privacy handling.

---

## Limitations

### Geographic Data

- Requires billing address on orders
- Guest checkouts may have incomplete data
- VPN users may show incorrect country

### Traffic Source Data

- Requires UTM parameters or referrer preservation
- Some browsers block referrer data
- Ad blockers may remove UTM parameters
- "Direct" traffic includes various untracked sources

---

## Enabling Enhanced Tracking

Geographic data is collected automatically from WooCommerce orders.

For traffic source tracking:

1. Use UTM parameters on marketing links
2. Ensure WooCommerce session tracking is enabled
3. Check that caching plugins don't strip UTM parameters
